Things to do in Hobart and Tasmania with Kids
When you think of Tasmania you think of scenery, cold and
picturesque. Yes - they are true. But there is so much more to Tasmania than
you may think. Especially for kids! The list of places to explore, things to
do, places to eat and stay are endless. There is no way of being bored in
Tasmania with kids. You won’t hear those words “Mum, I’m bored.”
Trust me. No, really, actually T-R-U-S-T me!
Where to begin? Let’s start off with Hobart (because well, it is
the capital).
Want the kids to learn but enjoy it (no, not school)? Take them to
the Tasmanian Museum and Art Gallery. There is so many exhibits to see and
learn from. A majority of them are interactive and if the kids can touch things
and play with things, then you know they will be happy.
Need somewhere to eat? The Pancake Train or Rivulet Cafe. One in
an old train. The other with a playground outside. Both are good and keep the
kids happy so that coffee is actually hot whilst drinking it!
Is it raining? Doesn’t matter as there is a whole bunch of indoor
activities. Putters for Mini Golf, Hobart Aquatic Centre for a swim, YMCA play center
for a run around, Zone 3 for some laser tag or Intensity for some arcade games.
Look, I could keep the list going, but I would be here all day!!!
Tired? Want somewhere to sleep? Awesome family options like
Discovery Parks Hobart, Travelodge or the Old Woolstore.
Day trip? Richmond - beautiful quaint old town has an Old Gaol,
life size model of how the old town looked, a bridge still standing from the
1820’s.
Heading around the island we go up the west coast. Although a long
drive once you get to the towns of Queenstown, Strahan and Zeehan you will be
pleasantly surprised. Beautiful scenery, lovely quaint towns and plenty to do
and see. World Heritage Cruises takes you out on the spectacular Gordon River
and the Galley Museum is sure to be a hit as the kids can dress up in old
fashioned costumes.
Up to the top and you hit places like Burnie, Ulverstone and
Devonport. All are nice towns with nice people! A must stop is Pedal Buggies in
Ulverstone (during summer months). Devonport is where the Spirit comes in and
is a nice place for a stop for lunch and a tour around. Train ride? Yes please!
The Don River Railway has old steam trains that you can jump on and have a ride
to the beach and back.
